What To Do When You Can’t Uninstall a Program

July 24, 2008

The Add or Remove Programs utility that comes with the Windows operating system often fails to ensure complete removal of programs. Therefore, quite often, loads of orphan files, folders and registry entries are left behind. Over time, your system gets clogged with this unwanted data that eventually causes it to slow down and even generate many different types of errors.

This is the reason why to prevent all these problems, it is essential that we take measures to ensure complete removal of programs from the system. There are many different tools available today that can help you achieve this goal. Some of the commonly used tools and methods are discussed in this article.

How To Stream Music To Your Xbox 360 on a Wireless Network

June 3, 2008

The way we listen to music has changed over the past few years. Many people have gone from CDs to digital tracks that are stored on our computers. One of the biggest challenges has been having music on your computer that you want to listen to in your living room. Thanks to the Microsoft Xbox 360, if you have a wireless network and a Windows-based PC, you can now listen to the music on your computer through your Xbox 360.

To get started, you have to first have a wireless network set up and the Xbox 360 able to receive that signal.

  1. Purchase a wireless high speed internet router. I recommend visiting www.xbox.com and looking at the list of approved routers, as some will conflict with the Xbox. The installation of a router will be well outlined in the instructions that you receive with the router.

How To Transfer DVR Recordings to DVD

With all the advancements in technology today you’d think it would be simple to create a DVD of a show or program that you recorded on your DVR. Although it can be done, it’s not necessarily as straightforward as you might think. It takes a little extra time setting up your home video system and, usually, an additional investment in some extra hardware as well.

How to Initiate a First Kiss

May 17, 2008

A first kiss is like a first impression, except it is much more important. This kiss will be your first intimate experience together. Follow these steps to make sure your first kiss is not your last kiss! Here are some steps on how to initiate a first kiss.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Breath mints

Step1
Find somewhere to be alone. Crowded parties, dance floors and greasy restaurants are all terrible places for a romantic first kiss. Think up an excuse to be alone. Go for a walk, take a drive, get some fresh air.

Step2
Pay attention to body language. Is there contact? Is your heart pounding?

Step3
Wait for a good moment. Wait for a lull in the conversation, when your eyes meet and you both can’t seem to look away. The moment will feel right.

Step4
Build up your contact and culminate it with a kiss. Let him or her anticipate it eagerly.

Step5
Lean in slowly. Give a kiss on the cheek gently and move toward the lips.

Step6
Take it easy. You got your kiss, don’t push it. A kiss should not be rushed.

Step7
Smile and pull back. Keep eye contact and say good night, or rejoin the party.

How to Get and Survive a First Date

There are those who throw endless hints to that special somebody hoping they will eventually take the bait and there are those who feel if they cast enough lines in the water, they’re sure to get a bite. Is there a happy medium?

Step1
So you’d really like to go out with that sales rep with the incredible smile. Forget the hints. Hopefully you already have an unlisted number or a cell phone (can’t be too careful) and a handful of business cards. What? No business cards? Go get some and duhhh, don’t include your work number on these cards. These are meant to introduce you to possible dates-not business partners. Oh, and please no fictitious lofty titles such as "Pat-world class ski champion" unless of course you are a world class ski champion in which case it would be fine.

How To Convert Access to MySQL

Both Microsoft Access and MySQL have found wide use in many companies though for different reasons. The main advantage of Access is its relative ease of use while MySQL’s strength comes from its versatility. MySQL’s versatility allows it to work in conjunction with programs written in various languages as well as even Access. It allows multiple-user access, makes management of large databases easier, provides increased security, and simplifies backup management. In addition MySQL is provided free of charge. To migrate from an Access to MySQL we will be using a free program called DBTools. DBTools has a feature that allows us to directly import data from Access files.

How To Make Your Computer Start-Up Faster

OK, so this is supposed to help those who are having a bad time starting up their computers.  You know the feeling–you turn it on and it takes a lifetime for you to actually do something on it.  Argh!  These steps are easy to follow, and there is no software required.

  1. Click on the green button on the left bottom of your desktop called "Start."
  2. Now click where it says, "Run," and a box will pop up.
  3. Now on this box, type "msconfig," and hit the enter key.
  4. Now when the "System configuration utility" window shows up, you will see tabs on the upper part of the window.
  5. Click on the tab that reads "Startup."  You will see numerous names with check boxes all checked.

Now you will notice that most of those names with the check boxes checked are things you don’t really use when you start up your computer–things like Messenger and LimeWire and those kinds of software.  Why have them start and show up when you don’t need them?  Well, let’s take them out then…just follow the steps below to do so.

  1. Uncheck the boxes for the stuff that you know you won’t be using as often.  Be sure not to uncheck the system boxes.
  2. After unchecking, hit the "apply" key followed by the "Close" key and you will see a box that says, "You must restart your computer."  If you want to restart your computer now, hit the "restart" key.  But if you are still doing something or need to finish up what you are doing, then just click on the "Exit without restart" key and restart manually after you’re done.  Changes will be made after the system is restarted.

And now you are done. Restart your computer and you’ll see for yourself–no more multiple screens popping up when you turn on your PC!

How To Clean an LCD Monitor

To clean your LCD, you can use a soft cloth, water and isopropyl alcohol.

  1. Turn off your LCD monitor. Turn off your screen and unplug any power sources connected to it (if possible). This will also make it easier to see dirt, dust, and streaks.
  2. Grab a soft, clean cloth. Look around you house for the softest, smoothest, and cleanest cloth you can find. Look in eyeglass cases, linen closets and/or laundry rooms.
  3. Grab water and/or isopropyl alcohol. If your monitor isn’t very dirty, water will do just fine but if it has been a while since you last cleaned it, you can use a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water (about half and half) and put it in an empty spray bottle.
  4. Spray the mixture onto cloth. Make sure you spray the mixture onto your cloth and not directly onto the screen.
  5. Wipe screen gently. Make your first pass over the screen lightly so you can just get the big stuff. Then refold the cloth, spray it, and wipe gently but with enough pressure to get rid of finger prints and other dirt. Make sure you also wipe your screen from left to right, up to down or vice versa.
  6. Turn on screen. Now turn on your screen and you should have a clear, beautiful screen with no marks!

Its definitely hard to remember the usernames and passwords for all the websites that we visit daily. But what if you want to print out that login credentials list for future reference or want to save it as a document list somewhere within your operating system. Password Export, a Firefox addon, is there to help you in this regard.

How To Brew Beer

Beer is composed of malt, hops, water and yeast. It can be brewed at home using one of two methods: 1) all-grain brewing, or 2) a malt extract brewing kit.

To produce beer, yeast ferments the sugars in malted barley. All grain-brewing involves converting malted barley starch into fermentable sugar, and then extracting those sugars. With a malt extract brewing kit, the sugars have already been converted and extracted for you. As a result, when you make beer with this method the process isn’t much more complicated than making a box of macaroni and cheese. In this article, we’ll be discussing the simpler process of using a malt extract brewing kit.

How To Make Barking a Thing of the Past

Dogs love to bark, and do so for a variety of reasons. It is their form of communication. Sometimes, a barking dog can be a nuisance to both the owner and the neighborhood. In order to modify your pooch’s barking behavior, you must first understand what is causing it. Once the culprit is identified, then a non-barking training program can be started immediately.

Puppies learn very quickly that barking gets them the attention they want. He barks, you check to see what is going on. In this case, the barking is caused by a need for attention. It’s a good idea to not give into his pup-like attention-seeking habits. As the pup grows up, he may still resort to barking, because he knows it will produce results. Make sure you are giving your dog an adequate amount of attention. Spend time playing with him and taking him for walks. He will soon learn that he does not have to bark to get you to play.
